Jaw Pain and Dysfunction
The temporomandibular joints (TMJ) are small but incredibly important—they allow you to speak, chew, yawn, and express yourself. When something goes wrong with these joints or the surrounding muscles, it can result in symptoms like:
- Clicking or locking of the jaw
- Jaw fatigue or tightness
- Facial or ear pain
- Difficulty opening wide
- Headaches or neck tension
- Chipped, worn, or uneven teeth
This condition—known as TMJ dysfunction—often overlaps with clenching or grinding (bruxism), which in turn is connected to stress, sleep issues, or airway problems.
At Admire Dentistry, Dr Alex Davies brings a multimodal, evidence-based approach to diagnosis and treatment. We combine advanced imaging, muscle and joint assessments, and referrals for sleep studies and airway scans. Treatment may include custom oral appliances, MLS laser therapy, nutritional guidance, and collaboration with a wide network of allied health professionals—including, but not limited to, orthodontists, oral myologists, ENT specialists, sleep physicians, neurologists, physiotherapists, functional and manual therapists, and integrative nutrition experts such as dietitians, naturopaths, or clinical nutritionists. Recommendations are always tailored to your specific needs, ensuring a comprehensive and coordinated approach to care.
